VeganuClarey Challenge
January-February 2021
Despite lockdown, more than 30 students signed up to our second annual evidence-based challenge to cut high-carbon foods from your diet. Those who took part reduced their daily carbon footprint by about 17% for each day they succeeded!
Colony Carbon Competition
September-December 2020
In Autumn 2020, Clare Goes Green and Clare Green Impact will be giving students updates on the monthly emissions of each staircase in Colony and challenging then to lower their consumption. There will be a Staircase Leaderboard for those who are consuming least compared to the same time last year, and Prizes on offer for the winning staircase.
We’ll also be campaigning to inform students how to cut gas and electricity use in college without compromising quality of life.
Carbon-Labelling at the Buttery
Ongoing
We are working with Clare Catering to calculate the emissions of each meal served at the buttery.
By January 2021, each meal will then have a colour-coded label at the point of purchase, identifying whether its embodied carbon emissions are low (green), medium (orange) or high (red).
Clare Green Weekends
April-June 2020
A weekly newsletter, aimed to inform people about how their daily decisions contribute to their carbon footprint, and how they can reduce their carbon emissions drastically without compromising severely on their quality of life.
Over 150 students and staff signed up to our mailing list, and the feedback has been so good that we are planning to run a second, extended version of the project in 2021.
Gyp Posters
February-March 2020
Over 200 of our posters detailing how the emissions of different foods compare were put up throughout gyps (kitchens) in Clare accommodation.
These were so popular that they’re now being used in several other colleges.
VeganuClarey Challenge
January-February 2020
60 signed up, of which about half cut ruminant meat for a month and half went vegan, reducing their carbon footprint by about 17% for each day they succeeded!
Vegan Formal and Fundraising

Buttery Dinners Campaign
